Like Sand Through the Hourglass

2012

One of the shows that my mom and her sister, Aunt Charlotte, used to watch during the day while us kids were in school had this slogan, “Like Sand Through the Hourglass” that they played at the start of the show. The only reason I know this is because when there was no school – for Christmas break of on snow days, my mom and Aunt Charlotte still watched this show every day, and the slogan seems to appropriate for today, the first day of the new year.

With 2011 now just a memory, I hope that 2012 is good to us all.

Sparkling Grape Juice

We are throwing a little party this weekend to celebrate the New Year. I like to have a bottle of champagne for the New Year’s toast, but I am also sensitive to the needs of some people to not drink alcohol – not even a sip of champagne on New Year’s Eve. I don’t want them to feel excluded or embarrassed, so I am buying a couple of bottles of sparkling grape juice. I plan to set out a tray of both drinks and let people take whichever glass they prefer. After all, it’s not about the drink – it is about the toast and the well wishes.

The Story of Following the North Star

original-gps

This Christmas Eve, remember the story of Mary and Joseph and their search for a place to sleep. Remember the wise men who followed the north star. And remember the reason for the season. Merry Christmas to all.

Turkey or Ham?

Heading to the grocery store tomorrow and I have this wild notion to skip buying a turkey this time for Christmas dinner. I like turkey and all the fixings, but Thanksgiving was just over 3 weeks ago and I seriously don’t want to eat turkey again so soon. I’m thinking a ham for Christmas dinner would be a nice change. Or maybe a goose. That would be so continental – a proper goose for Christmas dinner. I don’t even know if you can buy a goose at the grocery stores around here. and we don’t have proper butcher shops in this area. I think I will go to the biggest grocery store in the area – if anyone would have a goose I would think it is the big Kroger up at Providence Center.

Can I Trade Monday?

return mondays

The only good Mondays are the ones that are part of a 3 day weekend. I wish we always had Monday off – they would be easier to deal with from home. I think we need more 3 day weekends anyway.
