What some people may not realize is that a job is more than just the money. For a lot of people, a job gives them a reason to get up each morning, a sense of purpose. The fortunate ones are the workers who truly love what they do every day. That is why a pink slip can be so devastating. It is more than just the money.

I miss the beach. I’m a water baby and I need to be around water to feel safe and secure in my life.

This summer I want to spend at least a full week at a beach. Preferably on the Gulf of Mexico, although the Atlantic Ocean would do.

The best way to spend time at the beach is in a full service hotel that is right on the beach. Book a room with a beachfront view of the water. And a tiki bar at the hotel pool makes it even nicer.

Every morning I make a small pot of coffee and sit down in the kitchen to read the morning newspaper. If anything happens to my newspaper so I cannot read it with my coffee, it starts my day off on a bad note.

This morning there was no newspaper in my driveway. So I guess some hooligan has stolen it, or more likely the newspaper delivery person forgot to throw mine in my driveway. That seems to be happening a lot lately.

This Sunday is Mother’s Day. Sadly, my own mother passed a few years ago. So this holiday is sad for me. But for the people who are lucky enough to have their mothers near and dear, I hope they spend the day with her and let her know how much she means to them.

My mother used to be very fond of chocolates. As a kid, my dad used to take me down to the corner drug store and let me buy her a big box of Whitman’s chocolates. The big yellow box was called the Whitman’s sampler and she always loved that gift. I miss doing that for her and then sharing in the bounty.
