Concert Announcements

There was an email waiting for me this morning from the Ryman Auditorium. They were announcing their spring lineup of shows. They have some really good acts coming to Nashville this year. I might just have to spend some money on a couple of tickets and go downtown for music and fun. Like the good old days.

Phone Overboard

Well, today was not a good one for me. I started out having a great day – we went fishing at the Lake. Didn’t really expect to catch anything, but it has been so warm that getting the jon boat out sounded like a good idea. So we spent 3 hours putting worms on hooks and didn’t catch a thing. On the way back to the boat ramp, I leaned over to check the motor and PLOP! My cell phone jumped out of my pocket and went overboard. Totally my own fault – can’t even yell at anyone.

No Snow Yet

Here we are into January and we have not had “winter” yet. There has not been any snow and it is not cold – knock on wood. Not just here in Tennessee – but most of the country is having unusually warm temperatures. This morning I saw a news report that a lot of ski resorts are having trouble keeping snow on the slopes – it is not cold enough for man made snow. I find this a little troubling. Not that I can do anything about it, but I worry that the lack of snow will mean a drought for many places this spring.

Like Sand Through the Hourglass

2012

One of the shows that my mom and her sister, Aunt Charlotte, used to watch during the day while us kids were in school had this slogan, “Like Sand Through the Hourglass” that they played at the start of the show. The only reason I know this is because when there was no school – for Christmas break of on snow days, my mom and Aunt Charlotte still watched this show every day, and the slogan seems to appropriate for today, the first day of the new year.

With 2011 now just a memory, I hope that 2012 is good to us all.

Sparkling Grape Juice

We are throwing a little party this weekend to celebrate the New Year. I like to have a bottle of champagne for the New Year’s toast, but I am also sensitive to the needs of some people to not drink alcohol – not even a sip of champagne on New Year’s Eve. I don’t want them to feel excluded or embarrassed, so I am buying a couple of bottles of sparkling grape juice. I plan to set out a tray of both drinks and let people take whichever glass they prefer. After all, it’s not about the drink – it is about the toast and the well wishes.
